Ik Lamha – A Soothing Melodious Track Set in the 60’s

Azaan Sami Khan released ‘Ik Lamha’ a few months back, which is also the third single from his debut album “Main Tera”. The song currently has received over a whopping 34 million views in less than a year. The song features Azaan Sami’s amazing vocals where he sings about his love interest who got away.

The song unfolds the heartbreaking tale with beautiful lyrics penned down by AM Turaz with Qawwali as the chorus that makes it even catchier. ‘Ik Lamha’ is composed with a combination of traditional and modern instruments giving it many shades but the song could have been much better if it only consisted of traditional tunes with the tabla and harmonium rather than modernizing it in the bridge section, as it seemed off. The melody is very refreshing that makes the song harder to forget.

The song’s music video was also released starring Maya Ali as Azaan’s love interest. The video is set in 1964 Karachi with vintage cars, horse carts, old school buildings and theatres. It’s a full on cinematic piece to watch with attention to detail given on everything. The video also gives a Gatsby vibe with the costumes of dancers and men wearing tuxedos.

We can see Azaan dressed up formally in a tuxedo and suspenders and Maya with the 60’s iconic lifted hairdo. However, another thing that seemed off was Maya’s mustard outfit that looked like she was coming from a wedding wearing all the heavy jewelry and dress even though it did not go with the dress code of the place where Azaan was performing. If this was an attempt to make her stand out in the crowd then it could have been done in other ways as well.

Coming towards the song’s bridge with the electric guitar, it wasn’t necessary to show Azaan actually playing an unplugged electric guitar on stage and simultaneously scenes cutting back to their last interaction. More details of their history could have been shown during this time that what was the reason behind their fallout because in the start Maya says he doesn’t believe he is good enough for her so some scenes should have been introduced to explain his side of the story. The director was seemed to be just dragging their encounter with them just staring at each other feeling heartbroken and then him just letting her go just like that? No I think everyone wanted to see something else or maybe him having second thoughts but still letting her go.

Overall the song is great and a must listen for everyone as it just puts you in the feels. It’s something you would want to listen and watch on the big screen.
