Asim Azhar released his latest single ‘Habibi’ last month in July and it feels like a new vibe we haven’t heard from the singer before. Just after nine hours, the song reached 200,000 views on YouTube and now has over 8,000,000 views on the platform. The song consists of electronic musical beats, which is a soothing tune for everyone to enjoy. With melodious vocals and great composition, this song has become a part of many people’s playlists. A go to song for long drives or walking out in the rain what a perfect time to release the song in the monsoon season.

The song’s theme is about patching up with your partner after a fight when you don’t know how to. ‘Habibi’ is an apologetic and appreciative song with lyrics starting off with the post-fight feelings of waiting for your partner to contact you and sort it out but you’re not getting a reply back and you end up waiting the whole night feeling empty wondering that you have feelings too but the other person is still worth the wait. The chorus begins with him calling out to his lover and that he is there whenever she needs him. In the second verse, he admits his fault but also wants to sort out a conclusion together rather than staying apart because he only wants her company than anyone else’s. He further goes on to explain that without her his day is incomplete and keeps wondering if she misses him too because he doesn’t feel like himself anymore and wants her presence next to him.

An interesting touch to the song is the use of three different languages like certain words coming from Punjabi, English and Urdu make it a nice combination something that Shamoon Ismail has been doing since he debuted this unique touch to his songs. However, there could have been more detailed songwriting other than repeating the same lines repeatedly. Another interesting word was calling your partner ‘Habibi’ after years of using the words like ‘jaan’ or ‘baby’, the habibi era has begun after the release of this song.

If you look at the video, it’s so nice to watch with the rain aesthetic with still images using minimal neon  and rain drops animations that go with the flow of the song. It is a good thing that no typical music video was made for this song, sometimes it’s just nice to appreciate the visuals only and not be distracted in order to enjoy the song and its lyrics. Habibi is truly a masterpiece that everyone should get to listen to at least once.
