After being launched in February 2021, Spotify has gained popularity in Pakistan as musicians and artists now have access to the Swedish audio streaming giant. The platform provides a great way for young talent to put out their work and reach a global audience. This is a good opportunity for artists to monetize their craft in a country where there is a weak system of earning royalties from your work.
Spotify’s popularity has grown a lot in a year with Spotify Pakistan reaching 90,000 followers on Instagram and over 19,000 songs added to the site from artists in Pakistan. The only biggest competitor that Spotify has are the websites that offer pirated music but no need to worry as Spotify has its own unique subscription packages to grab attention of potential users. Such plans include a month free subscription and there are Premium plans such as Premium Student, Premium Family and Premium Duo starting from as low as Rs 29. However, the best thing is that there is also an option to use Spotify Free that allows users to have access to limited online music catalogues and unlimited online podcasts. Isn’t something better than nothing?
Now what is in it for the artists? This platform provides benefits to artists who put up their music on the app in order to reach a bigger audience. All you need to do is download Spotify’s sister app ‘Spotify For Artists’ that helps musicians and artist in tracking real time stats for their latest releases, connecting with the Spotify community, earning revenue and promotional opportunities. Spotify does not charge any fee for uploading content so you have an unlimited window to put out your work. There are still a few features that we are looking forward to being included in the app such as:
Revenue information
Artists should be able to get information regarding the money earned from the app. It is not possible to know how much these artists have earned from specific songs or how much they have earned the current day, week, month etc. A must update we need to know the how and why behind payments.
Taking audience insights to the next level
The app allows artists to know which areas their music is most popular but it does not provide key information like average listening in a specific location, the songs popular in a specific area, lifespans of listeners, ages and gender of listeners in the region etc.
Communicating with your followers
This great feature needs to make a comeback to motivate artists to put more work on the app. As Spotify has gained its footing in the country it’s time to take it to the next level and raise engagement.
Having these changes in the app can improve it to an even greater level and affect how artists and audience engage with the platform. Providing a new music ecosystem for everyone!
